We Audited Our Own Astrology Site and Found Fake Reviews — Here's What We Removed

In July and August 2026 we ran an internal audit of every trust signal on this site and found several that weren't real: a fabricated 4.8-star / 190-review rating, four invented customer testimonials, a countdown timer that reset on every reload, unearned usage-count and refund-rate claims, and a named "pandit" persona with an invented biography standing in for what is actually an AI-generated report. We removed all of it. This post lists exactly what we found, why it happened, and what's different now.

What we found

  • A site-wide aggregateRating schema claiming 4.8 stars from 190 reviews — no review process producing that number ever existed.
  • Four fully invented customer testimonials with made-up names, plus a separate fabricated testimonial on our Marathi page.
  • A countdown timer implying a limited-time offer that silently reset every time the page reloaded.
  • An unearned "4,800+ couples" usage claim and a fabricated "2% refund rate" statistic.
  • A struck-through "original price" next to our real price, implying a discount that never existed.
  • A named "pandit" persona — a specific invented name, home city, and years of experience — presented as the author of what is actually an AI-generated report.
  • A fabricated statistic ("75-85% of marriages occur within a predicted dasha window") attributed to a real, respected institution that never published any such study.
  • Structured data (QAPage schema, meant for genuine multi-answer community forums) applied to single-author editorial content on dozens of pages — not a fabrication of fact, but a misrepresentation of what the content actually was.

Why it happened

Not from one decision. Each piece got added the way default growth-stage habits do: a testimonials section gets stubbed in before there are real testimonials to show, a scarcity timer gets copied from a template everyone else uses, a friendly "meet your astrologer" bio gets written to make an automated report feel more personal and less like talking to a machine. Individually, each felt like a small, common thing every site seems to do. Looked at together in one audit, it was a pattern we didn't want to be running.

What we do instead now

We say plainly that reports are AI-generated, applying the classical Ashtakoot methodology rather than written by a specific named person. We show the full koota-by-koota breakdown and the underlying planetary positions, specifically so a skeptical family member — or your own family's pandit — can independently verify the numbers instead of taking a headline score on faith. We publish a plain, enforced refund policy (24 hours, no reason required) instead of a manufactured urgency timer. None of this makes the report better at compatibility math; it makes what we say about it accurate.

What this does not mean

This is about trust-signal content — reviews, testimonials, urgency, personas — not about the astrology itself. The Ashtakoot compatibility scoring, dosha rules, and planetary positions are computed from real astronomical data and classical rules; that methodology wasn't part of this cleanup because it was never the problem. If you want to check our current standard for what we do and don't claim, that's covered directly on our legitimacy and trust page.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly did you find and remove?

A fabricated site-wide rating (4.8 stars from 190 reviews) that no review process had ever produced, four fully invented customer testimonials with made-up names, a countdown timer that reset itself on every page reload, an unearned '4,800+ couples' claim, a struck-through 'original price' that was never a real price, and — the one that bothered us most — a named 'pandit' persona with an invented biography (years of practice, a home city, credentials) standing in for what is actually an AI-generated report.

Why did this happen in the first place?

No single person decided to fabricate trust signals. They accumulated the way default growth-stage habits do — a testimonials section gets stubbed in before there are real testimonials, a scarcity timer gets copied from a template, a friendly 'meet your astrologer' bio gets written to make an automated report feel more personal. Each felt small in isolation. Audited together, they were a pattern we weren't comfortable with.

Is the report actually written by a real pandit now?

No, and we don't claim it is. The report is generated by an AI model applying classical Ashtakoot Vedic astrology methodology (the same 8-koota system a pandit would use), with an optional add-on where a person reviews the output. We removed the invented pandit biography because presenting an AI report as if a specific named person with decades of experience wrote it personally was the one claim we couldn't stand behind.

Does this mean your compatibility scores are also made up?

No — this is specifically about trust-signal content (reviews, testimonials, urgency, personas), not the astrological computation itself. The Ashtakoot scoring, dosha rules, and planetary positions are computed from real astronomical data (Swiss Ephemeris) and classical rules; that methodology is unrelated to, and wasn't touched by, this cleanup.
