Ashtakoot Koota Guide
Varna koota assigns each rashi to one of four categories: Brahmin (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), Kshatriya (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), Vaishya (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), and Shudra (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius). Groom's varna must be equal to or higher than bride's for full 1 point. If equal: 1 point. If groom's varna is lower: 0 points.
Varna carries only 1 point and is considered the least significant koota. Even a 0 in varna does not create a dosha. Most astrologers focus on higher-weightage kootas (Nadi at 8 pts, Bhakoot at 7 pts, Gana at 6 pts) before varna.
Varna koota measures spiritual and temperamental compatibility by assigning each rashi to one of four Vedic categories: Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra — based on the rashi's nature and qualities. It carries 1 point in the 36-point Ashtakoot system.
